Tignes is located in the Vanoise massif in Haute Tarantaise and is renowned for the quality of its skiing and facilities. It is also home to France's highest dam, whose history is inextricably linked with that of the resort. The construction of the dam in 1952 led to the destruction of the original village, which was subsequently submerged.
The resort lies at the foot of 300 kilometres of ski slopes and comprises several villages and districts, all exuding a family-friendly atmosphere. The charm of Les Brévières is enhanced by its traditional chalets. The centrepiece of Tignes 1800 is a church built as an exact replica of the one that stood in the original village and, as such, embodies the history of the resort. A little farther along lies the district of Lavachet, an oasis of calm. Then comes Tignes le Lac and Le Val Claret, where you can carry on your après-ski fun until late into the night.
